Once your eye is
anesthetized, the area around your eye is cleaned and sterile drapes are placed over you. The procedure itself begins with an incision into the eye. One popular type of incision is called the
scleral tunnel. This incision begins in the white part of the eye and tunnels into the clear cornea. Once in the clear cornea, the incision is redirected to enter the eye. This type of incision is usually made at the 12 o'clock position.
The clear corneal incision (shown) is another popular approach. As the name implies, the incision is made directly into the eye through the clear cornea. These incisions are typically made temporally. For the left eye, they are made at the three o'clock position and for the right eye they are made at nine o'clock. |
